The Camino Francés, also known as the French Way, has existed for over 1,000 years. It is the most popular, well-marked, long-distance walking route in the world. In recent times, between 150,000 and 200,000 people have walked this route annually. The French Way begins in the city of St. Jean Pied de Port, France, and travels approximately 800 km through the four Spanish regions of Navarra, La Rioja, Castilla y León and Galicia, finishing in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

The route travels over mountainous landscapes, across the rolling Spanish countryside and through urban areas, introducing visitors to remarkable scenery, historical and cultural landmarks, churches, cathedrals, monasteries and friendly towns along the way. Join award-winning outdoor adventure filmmaker Mark Flagler as he embarks on this inspirational, 37-day journey, capturing an adventure of a lifetime. Witness the challenges of walking a long-distance trail, the joys, moments of awe and wonder, the creation of new friendships, the experience of being part of the Camino family and all that makes the French Way so special.

This Extended Edition of Buen Camino: Walking the French Way includes additional footage and information from the journey, providing an expanded look at the experience of walking this remarkable route. It offers further insight into the landscapes, places, people, historical landmarks, what I carried on my back and the experiences encountered along the way, making it valuable viewing for anyone considering walking on the Camino de Santiago in the future.

The original documentary was produced in 2023, with this Extended Edition released on YouTube in October 2026.

Flagler Films would like to thank the Spanish Tourism Regions of Navarra, La Rioja, Castilla y León and Galicia for supporting this documentary. A big special thanks goes to the Spanish Tourism Office in Dublin, Ireland, for assisting with this project.
