Mark Flagler Walks and Photographs the Camino Finisterre
Mark Flagler completes the 90km pilgrimage route from Santiago de Compostela to Faro de Finisterre, capturing the journey through photographs.
I have just returned from an incredible four-day walk on the Camino Finisterre, completing the entire 90km route from Santiago de Compostela to Faro de Finisterre on Spain’s Atlantic coast.
Although I have walked sections of the Camino Finisterre on previous visits, this was the first time I completed every step of the route from Santiago to Finisterre. It was also my fifth Camino overall, and once again I was reminded why these ancient pilgrimage routes continue to inspire people from around the world.
Unlike the Camino Francés, which finishes in Santiago de Compostela, the Camino Finisterre continues westward through the Galician countryside to the Atlantic Ocean. For centuries, pilgrims have extended their journey beyond Santiago to Finisterre, a place once known as “the end of the world.”
Over four days, I followed quiet country roads and footpaths through forests, farmland, and traditional Galician villages. Along the way I encountered fellow pilgrims from many different countries, enjoyed excellent local food, and experienced the peaceful rhythm that makes the Camino such a rewarding journey.
As both a filmmaker and photographer, I carried my camera throughout the walk and captured many of the landscapes, villages, historic landmarks, and coastal views that make this route so memorable. The photographs below follow the journey from Santiago de Compostela to Faro de Finisterre and showcase some of the highlights along the way.
This walk also provided an opportunity to revisit the route ahead of the guided Camino trips I will be leading this September with the award-winning Ian Taylor Trekking team. I am delighted that our 16-day Camino Francés & Camino Finisterre trip has already sold out, and there are now just two places remaining on our 9-day Camino Francés trip.
Standing beside the lighthouse at Faro de Finisterre and looking out across the Atlantic was a fitting end to another memorable Camino journey. I am already looking forward to returning to Galicia in September and sharing this remarkable experience with another group of walkers.

The photographs below are presented in the order they were captured, following my 90km journey from Santiago de Compostela to Faro de Finisterre. Together they tell the story of the route, from the historic streets of Santiago and the rolling Galician countryside to the dramatic Atlantic coastline and the famous lighthouse at the end of the Camino.
I hope you enjoy the photographs from the journey.
Buen Camino!
