Mark Flagler walks the Celtic Camino
On March 5, 2025, I began my journey along the Celtic Camino. It started in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland, where I walked the 25km Boyne Valley Camino—a beautiful route through historic landscapes and along the River Boyne.
A few days later, I traveled to A Coruña in northern Spain to begin the second part of the pilgrimage. Over the course of three days, I walked 75km along the Camino Inglés, making my way to the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
The Cathedral of Santiago now grants a Compostela (official certificate of completion) to pilgrims who walk the 75km from A Coruña, provided they have already completed a certified 25km pilgrimage in their home country. A Coruña has deep historical ties to Ireland, serving as the main port of disembarkation for Irish pilgrims since the 12th century.
I walked this Camino with the intention of producing a documentary about this unique pilgrimage route in the near future.
The trip was amazing. The weather was colder and wetter than usual, but that didn’t take away from the experience. Walking the Celtic Camino was a truly memorable and meaningful journey. Buen Camino.
